"I don't know you, but I know you're flamboyant and free when you dance!" - Selena
With only minimal professional training, my dance is an expression of fun, a mood shifter, an energy booster, an ode to life.
Dance has brought me many of those moments when I have felt at my most free, my most alive, my most in love with my body, my most creative, and my most grateful to God for being alive.
I twirl and whirl, jump and jig. I like to move my feet in patterns in time with the rhythm. If the music is right for me, it lifts me onto my feet and draws me into motion, it calls for my physical response.
Hours on the dance floor in different places, at different times, with different people, have made me recognise how powerful a medium dance can be in inspiring those same feelings in others. I love it that their eyes turn bright and smiles grow, as they get up and have a go. Dance is about movement. That's all and everything it is. In freeform, you don't need to worry about steps. The versatility of the human body to move is fantastic. And yet, I have come across so many people who yearn but do not dare to move their bodies. And so my dance, in its expression of enthusiasm for rhythm, is an invitation to others to embrace their own unique movement, to shake and shimmy, expressing the I of themselves, replying to the flow of the music.
Dance is also for me an expression of synaesthesia. At classical concerts, my mind tends to conjure up dancers so that my inner eye watches a performance of dance whilst I sit and listen.
